First and foremost, social equity programs benefit those who have been most impacted by the war on drugs, including people of color, low-income communities and those with prior cannabis convictions. A more diverse and inclusive cannabis industry will be better equipped to address the needs and preferences of a wider range of consumers, leading to more innovation and better products. Additionally, social equity can have a positive economic impact by creating jobs and generating tax revenue. By providing economic opportunities to those who have been historically excluded from the legal cannabis industry, social equity programs can help to stimulate economic growth and promote prosperity in communities that have been left behind. Advocating for social equity in the cannabis industry is an important step towards promoting fairness, justice and inclusivity.
